You want to plan how you want your house to look for Easter before you actually start decorating. One of the ways to go wrong is to NOT to plan and to just “wing” it without any real direction. Having a plan in place will ensure that your decorations come together exactly as you want them too.

Pick a Theme

Have you ever seen a house that is just too “busy”? There is so much decorated that it is hard to really get a handle on the decorations and enjoy them because there is so many things to look at.
When you have more than one theme going on it can look haphazard.  It is okay to have a lot of decorations but you do have to keep them all in the same theme family.  There are several different Easter theme options that would work well for any house. Consider:
  • Fun themes
  • Religious themes
  • Spring time themes
  • Elegant themes
  • Combination themes
Fun themes like Easter bunnies is a nice way to decorate for Easter especially if you have children.  Religious themes are froth with crosses. Spring time themes are great because they can hang around long after Easter and keep your house looking festive.
Combination themes can be achieved by combining two themes like a fun theme with a spring time theme. The goal when you are choosing your theme is to pick a theme that you will enjoy and one that speaks to the personality of your house.
Once you have settled on a theme it is time to decide what parts of your house you are going to decorate. Some favorite spots include the general living area. The front of the house or the front garden.

Let’s Start Outside!

Keep in mind anything that you put outside will have to be weather proof. The climate where you live will likely play a big role in how you decorate. There are some easy ideas that will stand up to the weather nicely. You can start with a wreath for the door.

There are plenty of outdoor friendly options that you can use to create a welcoming Easter wreath. You can use live flowers, silk flowers, material and things that you find in nature to make an impressive wreath for your door. You can also buy one if you do not have the time to create a wreath.
After you have your wreath up it is time to look around your porch or front yard and see where you can add some festive décor. You can put several potted lilies in a grouping for a sophisticated look or you can even use silk flowers and arrange them in baskets on the porch.
You can add a stuffed bunny (as long as the area is covered) to the display for a fun twist. Hang plastic Easter eggs from tree limbs for a fun theme.
You can use Dogwood branches in a watering can to give your front porch some spring time pop! Any flowers will do, cold areas that may not see the burst of spring in time for Easter can make do with silk flowers.  You can even spray paint twigs and branches in festive colors and tie them together with twine as part of a porch display.

Moving Indoors

Whether you want a fun theme or a more serious theme indoors eggs are the answer! It is Easter and the egg is meaningful because it symbolizes new life. Colored eggs that are decorated with items you already have on hand make a nice display.
You can take eggs, blow out the egg by scratching a hole in the top and bottom ends and blowing out the egg with your mouth and use the shells as little vases. Keep the carton and use it as a base for your new “flower pots”.
Make a banner using pendants and twine that spells out Happy Easter and hang it from your fireplace mantel. A mantel is a great place to decorate for Easter. No matter what your theme you can use your fireplace mantel as a back drop.
Make unique place settings for your Easter meal by creating mini nests with a monogramed Easter egg. You can buy premade nests or make your own from some sphagnum moss.  Add some long vases with bunches of tulips to your table.
